DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Spc. Christopher J. Coffland, 43, of Baltimore, Md., died Nov. 13 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 323rd Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Meade, Md.

**Update 20 Nov**

Contact was made with the Casualty Assistance Officer for the Coffland family when the DoD Notificaion was released.  We have followed up on our request and the CAO was talking to the family for us.  At this time we do not have permission to confirm a mission to honor Spc. Coffland.  Viewings are scheduled for today (20 Nov), funeral services tomorrow (21 Nov), with interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.   If we do not receive an invitation to proceed, we will be Stand Down and honor the wishes of the family.
