Memorial Day, Chestertown 2011

We have been invited once again by The Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post # 36 in Chestertown, MD to a special Memorial Day service and parade in Chestertown, MD on Monday May 30, 2011.  The PGR will stand in a flag line to honor fallen heroes at the Chestertown Cemetery.
This year the post will be honoring, L. Rollison "Mac" McGinnis.  He graduated from Chestertown High School class of 1936. At seventeen he enlisted into the Maryland National Guard as a Combat Medic. On January 1, 1941 his unit, the 115th Infantry of the 29th Division was called into active duty for World War II.   They trained in the United States and England before storming Omaha Beach at Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944. From there they fought through France and into Germany where they helped liberate several concentration camps.  He was honorably discharged on June 18th, 1945 and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
After we complete the cemetery honors, the PGR has also been invited to participate in the Chestertown parade and short ceremony / veteran recognition near the town center.
