  Memorial Day Honors

Chestertown, MD

25 May 2015

The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited once again by The Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post # 36 in Chestertown, MD to a special Memorial Day service and procession in Chestertown, MD on Monday May 25, 2015.

This year Post 36 will be honoring Robert A. MOORE. On Friday, April 22, 2011, Robert A. "Bob" Moore, passed at his home on 22 April, 2011 on Cacaway Farm near Chestertown, MD. He was 77. The son of George and Mildred Amrhein Moore of Baltimore City, Bob graduated from City College High School in 1953. He served as a Military Police in the Army until his honorable discharge from active duty in 1955. He was a 1959 graduate of Washington College, where he met his future wife, Marion Lee Waterman. For several years he was as an agency service representative with Aetna Life and Casualty, he and Marion purchased the William B. Dukes Insurance Agency in Kennedyville, MD and renamed it Dukes-Moore Insurance Agency. He later relocated the office to its current location in Chestertown, MD. Bob quickly became a leader in the Kennedyville Community, when, greeted by a severe drought and a dry well in their recently purchased home, he led the effort to obtain funding for and construction of the town's first public water system. He served as Chief of the Kennedyville Volunteer Fire Department for ten years and was active in the county-wide effort to create the first 911 dispatch system. In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his daughter Chrissy, her husband, Ned, and their two children; his son, Michael, wife Wendy and their two daughters; and his son, Tim, wife Carol and their four children. His brothers Kenneth P. Moore and Raymond G. Moore of Lutherville survive him.

The Patriot Guard Riders will honor this hero by standing a flag line during the service recounting his accomplishments, After we complete the cemetery honors the PGR has been invited to participate in the procession to the Chestertown town center for a short veteran recognition ceremony.

I will be hosting a preliminary rally point at the 7-Eleven at the corner of MD 50 and MD 213 at Wye Mills, MD. We will leave this point and proceed on MD 213 to the final rally point at the 7-Eleven at 212 S. Maple AVE, Chestertown, MD. Anyone wishing to fall in line on the way will be welcome to do so. This distance is approximately 22 miles.

From the final rally point at the 7-Eleven  at 212 South Maple Avenue,  Chestertown, MD (the corner of Maple Ave and MD 213),  we will all ride to St. Paul's Episcopal Cemetery, 7579 Sandy Bottom Rd. Chestertown, MD 21620 and set the flag line. This distance is approximately 10 miles.

The procession following the cemetery ceremony is completely voluntary. Those who do not wish to participate in it may leave following the cemetery honors. We will travel from the cemetery directly to the assembly point at 100 Dixon Rd. Chestertown, MD (Approximately 6 miles). The procession itself is only about 1 mile long. We are welcome to participate in the short ceremony at the processions end point.

This event is open to all who wish to honor our veterans and those who sacrificed for our country. Come on iron horses or in cages - all will be welcome. 3' x 5' flags will be needed for the flag line at the cemetery. If you are going to participate in the procession - safely mounted large flags are welcome, or decorate your iron steed anyway you wish - as long as it's safe.

Food and gas are available at, or near,  both rally points.
