Kemper L. "Butchie" Mills, III, SSG (Ret) USA, Waldorf, MD/ANC 15 Sep 2010

This is the final Itinerary for the Patriot Guard Mission to honor SSG Kemper L. “Butchie” Mills, III, USA, Ret., Waldorf, MD, who passed away on August 20, 2010.  We were invited to stand for this soldier during his service on August 27th and have been invited to stand once again as he makes his final journey to Arlington National Cemetery (ANC).  Interment at ANC is scheduled for Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at approximately 1400 hrs.

 

SSG Mills served 22 years in the Army as an MP and was a veteran of Vietnam.  He was the recipient of the Army Good Conduct Medal with bronze clasp 5 loops, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm, and a Bronze Star medal.

 

He was an avid Redskins fan, enjoyed fishing and eating crabs.  His greatest joy in life though was his children and grandchildren.  He will be remembered by all who knew him for his great sense of humor and quick wit with a joke.

3x5 hand-held flags will not be needed for this mission.  If you have 3x5 flag(s) mounted on your motorcycle be sure your rig has been tested before arriving at the mission.  All rigs will be inspected prior to KSU.  The current weather forecast for Arlington, VA, on Wednesday, September 15th is mostly sunny with a high of 76, low of 59 degrees.  Dress appropriately.

Friday, August 20 Kemper "Butchie" Mills passed away at the age of 72.  He was a retired US Army SSG and served for 22 years as Military Police.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict earning the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Gallantry Cross.

Butchie's family has asked the Patriot Guard Riders to come out and show our respect for his long years of service. 

Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Butchie.

Rally Location:  Huntt Funeral Home, 3035 Old Washington Road, Waldorf MD.
Rally Time: 1515 hrs

There is gas and amenities close by in Waldorf.  Weather will be sunny with a high of 79 and low of 60.  Dress appropriately for the weather.

This will be a flag line mission only.  Please remember to bring your 3x5 US Flags for the flag line.  The viewing will be from 1600-1800 hrs, followed immediately by the funeral service.  We will maintain our flag line for the duration.  Interment will follow at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

This is an late afternoon/evening mission.  For those who cannot usually get away from work to stand the line, this is a great opportunity to show your respect.  If you need to come a little later than the rally time, please do.
