The Maryland Patriot Guard Riders are honored to be requested by the family of Colonel Joseph William Costello, MD, a USAF Veteran, to escort him and his family and friends to his final resting place.  Colonel Costello died 2 September 2016, after an extended illness.  

Dr. Joseph W. Costello was born in New Rochelle, NY and was graduate of Cornell Medical School.  He was a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American College of Surgeons.  After a year of active Duty as a Medical Officer in the USAF, Dr. Costello was associated with Providence Hospital for over thirty years, and was a Clinical Assistant Professor, Dept. of OB/GYN at Georgetown University Hospital.  He is survived by his wife, Nora Dougherty Costello and a large and loving family who will miss him.

Church services will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 12319 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD.  Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD.  We will render honors at each location.

0930 Hrs.    Stage at St. John the Baptist Church, 12319 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD.
0945 Hrs.    Brief
1000 Hrs.    Render Honors via Flag Line as mourners arrive at Church, and again via hand salute as casket is transferred to hearse.
1200 Hrs.    (Time Approximate) KSU, Escort Colonel Costello to his final resting place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Bring large 3X5 flag for flag line Honors.
Bring something cold to drink to stay hydrated.  Weather forecasts indicate HOT WEATHER, temperature in the upper 90’s.
