SHORT-NOTICE Ernest W. Tyler, WWII USAAC, Forest Hill,13-15 Feb 2011

It is with great sorrow we learn of the passing of Ernie Tyler.  Ernie was a member of our "Greatest Generation" and showed his dedication his entire life.  He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII.  When he returned he worked for the State of Maryland and took a part-time job as Umpire Assistant for the Baltimore Orioles.

He was a true "Iron Man" working 3,769 consecutive regular season, 40 post-season, nine exhibition games and one All-Star Game, over 48 years from 1960 through 2007. The streak ended only because Cal Ripken Jr. requested that Ernie be his guest at his Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in Cooperstown, New York.

Our sincere condolences to his wife of 64 years and his 11 children.
